F+W Master Site Template
F+W Publications is the owner of more than 100 websites. To make this workload manageable we needed to move existing websites, new websites, and new acquisitions to a consistent platform. With that in mind I worked with our business leaders to create a best practices framework that could be quickly skinned and deployed. These sites included page management, article management with RSS feeds, dynamically written SEO friendly URL, an intuitive user admin, flash slideshows, DHTML slideshows, Omniture integration, ad management integration, and many more features. We’re still in the process of converting all of our legacy sites to this new system, but each site we have deployed has seen a large increase in traffic and customer satisfaction.
Fantasy Sports Factory
After owning and operating a website named www.FantasySportsHelmets.com for three years I partnered with another developer to start www.FantasySportsFactory.com. The idea behind this site was to allow fantasy sports players to create and download a free logo for their website. The user picks or uploads thier logo, picks the colors of their helmet, resizes or moves the logo on the helmet and downloads thier images. The images are created in real-time utilizing ASP.Net's System.Drawing namespace and available for download immediately. The primary business model for the site is ad revenue. In addition, we make custom fantasy football mini helmets and work through a partner to provide custom fantasy football jerseys.
F+W Universal Template
In 2002 F+W Publications acquired Krause Publishing. Krause publishes a number of magazines, but all of those publications shared a portal website. I was asked to develop a system to rapidly give each site their own web presence. Aside from a web presence the primary goals were to start developing Google Page Rank, increasing traffic, and giving the editors a place to input content. The entire groups of more than 30 sites has experienced a 1000% traffic increase and have also resulted in an increased ad, book, back issue, and subscription sales.
Enhanced Karaoke CDs
While working at BM Digital Entertainment I was asked to create a series of Enhanced Interactive CDs to promote large country music festivals, new lines of BMDE product, and partnerships with major karaoke equipment providers. The interaction portion of the CD (played on a computer) featured video, product specs, photo galleries, and a computer-based karaoke player. The CDs also included complimentary karaoke music compatible with CD+G players. The most highly distributed of these CDs was copied 3 million times.
You can see more details about these CD’s at my archived portfolio from 2003.
